Tennessee Farmers Cooperative Announces Winners of 80th Anniversary Quilt Contest
Jun 13, 2024
Tennessee Farmers Cooperative (TFC) is pleased to announce the winners of its "Patchwork of Progress: TFC's 80th Anniversary Quilt" contest, celebrating the cooperative's 80 years of service to Tennessee farmers and communities.
The contest invited Co-op customers across the state to submit original 10-inch by 10-inch quilt squares showcasing the rich history and significance of agriculture in Tennessee, as well as the pivotal role played by farmers cooperatives like TFC.
"We were overwhelmed by the incredible creativity and craftsmanship displayed in the quilt square submissions," said TFC Director of Employee Engagement Claire Hill, organizer of the contest. "Each square beautifully captures the patchwork of progress that has defined TFC's 80-year journey, and we are honored to incorporate them into a commemorative quilt that will be displayed in our conference room in La Vergne."
The contest winners are:
First Place: Betty Faye Hicks, Seymour, Sevier County
Second Place: Tammye Miller, Tellico Plains, Monroe County
Third Place: Amy Talley, Tellico Plains, Monroe County
Additional squares that will be a part of the commemorative quilt will be listed in the January 2025 edition of the The Cooperator.
The winning quilt squares, along with the above entries, will be expertly stitched together to create a one-of-a-kind quilt that will serve as a testament to the enduring spirit of Tennessee's farming community and the cooperative principles that have guided TFC since its founding in 1945.
Due to the exceptional quality and quantity of quilt squares submitted, additional quilts will be crafted and offered for sale at the 2025 Co-op Auction Barn event next fall, as Tennessee Farmers Cooperative celebrates its 80th anniversary. More information will come about the additional quilts closer to the auction date in 2025.
"This quilt project is a wonderful way for us to celebrate our 80th anniversary and recognize the invaluable contributions of our customers and communities," said TFC Chief Executive Officer Shannon Huff. "We are incredibly grateful to all the participants who shared their talents and helped bring this 'Patchwork of Progress' to life."
The completed quilt will be unveiled in 2025, the year of TFC's 80th anniversary. All contest participants with chosen squares will be recognized in a 2025 issue of The Cooperator, the organization's member magazine.
